    Putting Evidence Into Practice.
    This edition of Health Affairs, sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), provides a variety of perspectives on the challenges and potential rewards of building and using a stronger evidence base for health care decisions. Articles in this edition review the history and context of evidence-based decisionmaking; they describe the challenges of developing the most relevant evidence for different clinical and policy decisions. They discuss obstacles and opportunities for practitioners and policymakers seeking to implement evidence-based decisions.

  • Canadian Institutes of Health Research
    Evidence in action, acting on evidence. A casebook of health services and policy research knowledge translation stories.
    Knowledge translation (KT) is a broad concept, encompassing all steps between the creation of new knowledge and its application to yield beneficial outcomes for society. Successful KT strategies can include linkage and exchange, communication and education, policy change, and program and practice improvement initiatives. CIHR's vision of successful KT is the exchange, synthesis, and ethically-sound application of knowledge within a complex set of interactions among researchers and users-to accelerate the capture of the benefits of research for Canadians through improved health, more effective services and products, and a strengthened health care system. A core element of CIHR's knowledge translation strategy is to support and recognize KT excellence, and to act as a KT resource for Canada.

  • Centre for Translational Research in Public Health - GB
    Our research programme has two main themes - health improvement and evidence translation - framed by a staged approach to intervention development, evaluation and implementation. Health improvement research will focus on health-related behaviour change, tackling health inequalities, and evaluation of new professional roles. The outputs of this research will feed into the translational research theme, which will focus on getting evidence into policy and practice by researching professional and organisational behaviour change, public health commissioning and knowledge translation. Integration across themes and strands results in theoretical and methodological advances of international applicability.

        The ‘NICS Barrier Tool’ was developed by the National Institute of Clinical Studies (NICS) to help health professionals identify the barriers to applying evidence and changing practice within Australian health care settings. The tool can be adapted for your particular situation. As an illustration, in the following pages the barrier tool is used to identify barriers to influenza vaccination in at risk groups. Established by the Australian Government in 2000, NICS is Australia’s national agency for improving health care by helping close important gaps between best available evidence and current clinical practice.

    The Joint Program in Knowledge Translation is a collaboration between St. Michael's Hospital and the Continuing Education and Professional Development Office, University of Toronto, Faculty of Medicine.
